LETICIA BERNAUS

I was born in Villa María, Argentina.

I studied at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, and I have a Bachelor´s Degree in Film and Cinema (graduated with honors). I assisted to the Annual Workshop on Creative Photography in Black and White Special Laboratory Techniques run by Sandra Siviero, to the Contemporary Photography Workshop run by Julieta Escardó and to Lena Szankay´s Photography Workshop “From thoughts to ideas”.

I worked in motion pictures, television series and commercials both as set and costume designer. In 2006 the International Museum of Women of San Francisco published my self-portrait on the cover of the book "Imagining Ourselves, global voices from a new generation of women", and some other pictures on their official website. I co-founded a rental company of cameras and lenses which has been working since 2011.

In 2015 I published Zoobiografía, my first book of photographs and personal essay. Zoobiografia’s photographs were exhibit at “MUGAFO” (National Photography Museum from La Plata, Argentina) and “Centro Cultural Matienzo” in Buenos Aires. In 2016 this work won the “Human World Competition” from the Spanish PHOTOALICANTE contest and they became part of the 2016 PHOTOALICANTE exhibition in Alicante, Spain.

In 2016 I was awarded with a fellowship to participate in to the Visual Artist’s Summer Studio Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. During this Residency I develop a work called The man who wasn’t there, which was exhibit at “The Depot Gallery” in Richmond, Virginia. In this Residency I met the artist Lara Mossler, who invited me to collaborate in her project “28 Days”. For this project I followed a guided meditation created by Mossler focused on women´s hormonal cycle, and I made 28 photographic collages as a response to each day meditation and to each day of my menstrual cycle. This photographs were exhibited at The Hollows Art Space in Williamsburg, New York, inside the Moons and Menses exhibition created by Moosler through the month of September, 2016.

Since 2015 I live in Iowa City were I have my studio and continue developing my new projects.
